Summer Academic Programs in Junction


The center at Junction offers Texas Tech University courses in three 15-day sessions. Students can earn 3-4 credit hours in course offerings such as Entomology, Field Ecology, GIS for NRM, Photography, Herpetology, Mammalogy, Ornithology, Geography and Techniques.

The Texas Tech Center at Junction, acquired in 1971, is the home to the Llano River Field Station and the Outdoor Learning Center, with emphasis on natural resource and watershed engagement, research and literacy, and environmental education in the Texas Hill Country.

Llano River Field Station

Texas Tech University Center at Junction is home to the Llano River Field Station. Established in June of 2002, the field station provides a laboratory and classroom environment for undergraduate and graduate students from numerous universities, institutes, and public schools.

As the largest inland field station in Texas, the national award-winning staff and faculty find themselves ideally situated, making it possible to conduct and coordinate research in a wide array of areas.

Outdoor Learning Center

The Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) provides STEM-based curriculum that incorporates hands-on, inquiry based learning aligned with the state-mandated curriculum that teaches K-12 students science through use of the outdoor environment.
